FitnessGram

Next week we will begin our fitness testing.  Upon completion of Fitness testing, the students will record their results into FitnessGram from the computer lab.  We think this will be a great way to incorporate technology into our PE class, and this will serve as a way for students to take ownership in their personal fitness levels.  Hopefully, when we complete our fitness testing again in the spring, our students will be able to see personal improvements and make the connection between getting physical activity and being healthy!

Adaptive PE

Today in our LSMD class, we were introduced to TGMD-2, a test of Gross Motor Development. This test lists a variety of skills. Examples of the locomotor skills test include: run, gallop, hop and leap. Examples of the Object control skills test, include: striking a stationary ball, stationary dribble, catch and kick. All the skills tested give listed materials, as well as directions to implement. There are also performance criteria to help accurately score an individual. I think this test is a good way to accurately determine which individuals need an adaptive program. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

It's Friday!

This week was kinda crazy because of the power outage and no school on Monday, and because the nurse did heights and weights during PE class. The kids still got quality physical activity and had fun :) We played a multi-ball soccer game throughout the week. We did this both inside with one field and outside with several fields. The kids seemed to really enjoy this and reached their 20 minute physical activity goal, on their pedometers.

This week at Kerr....

This week at Kerr and Fairview, we played small-sided soccer games! The kids seemed to love it! We only got rained out twice, and even then, we were able to play sideline soccer, which allowed the kids to get quality physical activity, and have fun :) Next week, we will continue with some soccer activities.

It's nice to meet you...

Hi! My name is Kati. I'm teaching PE at Kerr Elementary School and Fairview Elementary School. We have just started working on some soccer skills. Today, we gave our students a pedometer and told them our goal was to get atleast 20 minutes of physical activity time, while playing a small sided soccer game. The kids were very successful with this and seemed to really enjoy it!
